Specialty Glass Considerations
Glass with coatings (e.g., Low-E or reflective finishes) or textured surfaces (e.g., acid-etched glass) requires extra care. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive tools. For detailed instructions, refer to product-specific guidelines available from Novatec Glass.
What to Avoid
Do not clean glass in direct sunlight or when hot, as this may cause streaking or damage.
Avoid contact with glass edges, especially on laminated or insulated units.
Do not use acidic cleaners containing hydrofluoric or phosphoric acid.
Avoid abrasive materials, including scouring pads, powder based cleaners, or rough cloths.
Do not store materials against glass surfaces, which may cause scratches or thermal stress.
Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as applying hot water to cold glass.
Be cautious with adhesives or tapes, which may stain or damage the surface.
Storage & Handling
Proper storage and handling are essential to prevent damage during transport or installation.
Storage Guidelines:
Store glass vertically at a slight angle on padded supports.
Keep in a dry, well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
If glass arrives wet, separate and dry panels before restacking with spacers.
Use protective materials (e.g., paper, rubber pads, plastic wrap) between sheets during transport.
Handling Guidelines:
Only trained personnel should handle glass, following safe lifting and movement practices.
Ensure glass is securely fastened during transport to prevent breakage.
Protect glass from construction site contaminants such as cement, paint, or dust.
Installation Notes
Use neutral cure sealants for laminated glass to avoid damage to the interlayer.
For insulated glass units (IGUs), ensure sealants are compatible with the secondary seal.
Avoid installing glass near heat sources that may exceed 200°C, unless specifically approved by Novatec.
Follow AS 1288 standards for glazing and installation.
